It turns out that Romania is famous for more than being the home of Count Dracula.

With its eerie history in mind, several horror movies have been filmed in Romania. Some of these include The Nun, Netflix's The Ritual, The Devil Inside and Seed of Chucky.

But there's one part of the country that not many people are brave enough to venture in for brief periods of time, never mind for long enough to shoot a whole film - and that's The Hoia Baciu forest.

The infamous forest is located in Transylvania, and there's a lot of lore about it and what has happened there.

Hoia Baciu is believed to be haunted and has been for hundreds of years.

With the amount of disappearances that have reportedly occurred in the forest, it's often dubbed the 'Bermuda Triangle of Romania'.

For example, there's a story about a young girl who went missing in the forest, only to resurface years later in the exact same state she went missing in.

There's also a tale of a shepherd who went into the forest with 200 sheep and was never to be seen again.

While some people never allegedly make it out of Hoia Baciu, others come out and report experiencing strange symptoms such as nausea, anxiety, and the feeling of being watched.

Some have even had physical symptoms like severe rashes, headaches, and even burns, says Earth.

Then there's an incident that occurred in 1968 when military technician Emil Barnea took a photo of what he insisted was a UFO.

The Communist government at the time didn't hold much space for supposed alien sightings, and Barnea went on to lose his job.

Many people still question the validity of his claims as Barnea has nothing to gain from lying about what he saw.

Meanwhile, a Hoia Baciu tour guide named Alex recalled a time someone 'went crazy' while in the forest.

"There was a man who went crazy, thinking he’d met a demon," he said to The Independant.

"He’d just got a massive tattoo of a demon on his chest, to ward off demons."

Alex went on to share: "But the scariest thing happened to my colleague. He once did an extended night tour, one-on-one, with a very morbid man who talked about his obsession with death, how he enjoyed being with people as they die, watching them die. That was a long night for Marius."

Basically, there's a lot of unexplained phenomena that surrounds Hoia Baciu, leading people to believe that the thousand-year-old forest may be haunted.
