An employee has revealed what happened when he returned to work after three weeks of annual leave that his boss had attempted to cancel.
Having to request annual leave can be a frustrating process. You know you have plans, you know you want to go to them - but you're at the mercy of your employer as to whether you can actually avoid having to work that day.
Thankfully lots of bosses are able to grant the annual leave as requested, but one employer sparked controversy after they attempted to retract their approval via text.

The situation was shared by TikTok user Michael Sanz, who goes by the handle @theoutsourcingexpert and shared a series of screenshots he'd been sent by a viewer named Noel, who wanted to call out their boss, Nick.
Noel revealed how he'd received a message from Nick telling him that his annual leave was canceled as a result of another employee resigning.
Assuming Noel would accept without argument, Nick concluded his text: "Appreciate your understanding."

However, Noel had already made plans to use his vacation to go to his brother's wedding in Bali, so attempted to tell his boss that canceling wasn't 'an option'.
In response, Nick suggested he instead take three days of annual leave, instead of three weeks.
I don't know about you, but if I was spending two days traveling to and from a different country to celebrate my sibling getting married, I'd probably want to spend more than one day actually enjoying it.
Noel attempted to ask why Nick couldn't hire a temp to cover, but his boss ultimately resolved the leave was 'canceled'.

Taking a stand, Noel then hit back by saying he didn't want to go into work from that point, and decided to start his vacation early.
After Noel's story received a flood of attention on Michael's TikTok page, the TikToker gave an update on the debacle.
In a follow-up message to Michael, Noel explained he'd turned his phone off for the entire three weeks, adding: "I didn't check socials or my emails."

Though Noel was well within his right to avoid contact with work while on vacation, it's no surprise that his employer wasn't very happy upon his return.
When he came back from his trip, Noel noticed the management team seemed 'a bit distant'.
Following the frustrating ordeal, Noel decided to 'find another job' and handed in his notice.
He found another job with 'higher pay,' and he told Michael he felt 'grateful' from the amount of 'support' he'd received after Michael first shared his story.

Michael described the situation as a 'success story', saying: "People see their value and they don't need to put up with how their companies are treating them. So, well played, well done."
