A group of people hoped to prove once and for all who would win in a race: a tortoise or a hare.
Now if I say the words Aesop’s Fables, it likely doesn’t mean much to you. But if I ask you to tell me the story of the 'Tortoise and the Hare' you know exactly how it all pans out.
Aesop’s Fables is essentially a collection of fables by storyteller, Aesop, that date back to ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BCE.

So you might not know his story but you definitely know his work. Some of Aesop's most famous fables besides the 'Tortoise and the Hare' are the 'Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing' and the 'Boy Who Cried Wolf'.
But incase your childhood wasn’t filled with these bedtime tales, the story of the tortoise and the hare sees the two talking animals going head-to-head in a race.
The hare is supremely confident because it's quick and agile and the tortoise is well... slow.

The race sees the hare jump to a massive lead and in a move to mock the tortoise for daring to challenge him, the hare decides to take a nap to wait until the tortoise catches up.
But as the tortoise plods along it eventually overtakes the hare who wakes up and isn’t able to overtake the tortoise in time and loses.
The moral of the story is often interpreted to be that the race isn’t always won by the fastest but the most determined and persistent.

Now, as you can imagine, in the real world it is pretty easy to get your hands on these animals and put them in a race and that is exactly what a group of people once decided to do.

Admittedly, they opted for a rabbit rather than a hare but you get the point.
The clip has long circulated social media and regularly goes viral on multiple platforms.
In the footage, the two animals are seen in their own racing lanes ready to set off.

Just like in the fable, the rabbit is off to a commanding lead but regularly takes stops while the tortoise continues at a slow and steady pace.
And would you believe it? Slow and steady wins the race with the rabbit being pretty uninterested in crossing the finish line first.
People have taken to the comments of the video to share their thoughts.
One wrote: "The legend is true."
Another added: "Humanity's greatest question next to meaning of life is finally answered!"
While a third commented: "My favorite part is how hype everyone gets when they realize the turtle is about to win."
I guess real-life imitates art.
