Due to the nature of their jobs, influencers open themselves up to the world and are often faced with harsh criticism from the general public for pretty much every move they make.
And this is certainly the case for 33-year-old influencer Elle McNamara, who goes by the name of Bambi Does Beauty on Instagram and (unsurprisingly) creates beauty and lifestyle content on the application.
While for Elle, critiques regarding her makeup choices or skincare routine are likely expected, it was instead her general lifestyle that came under fire.

This backlash comes following a recent post of Elle’s that detailed several things she does that people consider weird considering her age.
Some of these things were less controversial than others, such as the 33-year-old not enjoying the taste of alcohol and not aspiring to have children.
However, many found other aspects of her lifestyle perplexing and stunting.

Notably, the Brit says that she still lives at home with her mom, never learned how to drive, and has been single for 14 years of her life due to 'not going out much'.
These were the ones that particularly drew the ire of many Instagram users, leading to many of them commenting their opinions below the post, which has received over 174,000 likes.
“Learning how to drive is a necessity and considering your parents age you should for their sake,” said one comment, alluding to the fact that her mother and father, both of whom she considers her closest friends, are 62 and 72 years old, according to the post.

Another comment took umbrage with Elle’s statement that she’s become more introverted, presuming that her sheltered lifestyle is the reason for this sensation.
“You’re becoming more introverted because you don’t do anything,” the commenter said bluntly.
Some comments were more supportive though, especially regarding her decision to continue living with her parents despite her age.
“There's nothing wrong with living with your parents. It's actually very common in other cultures,” noted one comment in support of the influencer.

However, most found her peculiarities to be, well, peculiar.
While many comments were jokes or criticisms made at Elle’s expense, other commenters criticized Elle mainly because they wanted to see her step out of her comfort zone and live a more complete life - well, at least by their standards.
“It looks like you will end up with cats,” said one comment that amassed over a thousand likes, “Go out, girl! Life is too short.”

Ultimately, it’s unlikely that Elle will take much of this to heart.
The influencer has garnered over 609,000 Instagram followers living the life she does, and the caption on her controversial post says it all: “It’s ok to live a life others don’t understand.”
