A new Disney+ short sees Billie Eilish meet Lisa Simpson, but there's one thing that doesn't make sense about their friendship.
Is it the fact that Eilish is in fact a real person while Lisa is an animation? No, because in this particular situation Eilish is also cartoon-ified, with her skin tinged yellow in keeping with the world of The Simpsons.
When Billie Met Lisa was released on the streaming service yesterday (22 April), with a teaser for the short showing the international pop star hearing Lisa play her saxophone for the first time.

Take a look at how Lisa jazzed her way into Eilish's life below:
Eilish, who is only 20 years old herself, finds herself baffled that such majestic music can be stemming from an eight-year-old and dubs Lisa a 'little stinker' for her talents.
Still, rather than make an enemy out of the middle Simpsons child, Eilish introduces herself and asks if Lisa wants to 'jam', causing the saxophonist to burst into tears.

It's undoubtedly a kind offer from the bad guy singer, but there is a plot-hole with this particular storyline. Eilish was born on 18 December 2001 – I know, it's incomprehensible – but The Simpsons first aired on 17 December 1989, almost exactly 12 years to the day before Eilish was welcomed into the world.
Despite being 12 years younger than the show itself, though, Eilish is somehow still 'lots' older than Lisa in the short. In reality Lisa would be around 41 years old in 2022 if she was eight years old in 1989, but I suppose Eilish would be less surprised to discover such musical talent belonged to someone in their 40s, compared to someone who hasn't yet reached double digits.
The fact that Eilish has managed to jump into the show at her current age while Lisa remains a child is undeniably nonsensical, but then again we have to consider the fact that The Simpsons characters are perpetually stuck in the ages they were given at the start of the series, aside from the odd flashback or glimpse into the future.

Guinness World Records named The Simpsons as the longest-running animated sitcom in 2019, and considering the creators are still rolling out storylines three years later, it's safe to say the decision to keep the characters in limbo was a good one. Later life has a lot to offer, but there's really only so long the beloved older characters could stick around for.
