It seems Chick-fil-A is finally flying the coop as it closes its original branch.
Despite being open for 56 years, the Greenbriar Mall branch served its last meal on May 20.
While it’s unclear why the branch has closed, the closure of the fabled restaurant isn’t the only reason why Chick-fil-A has been making headlines over recent years.

Last year, a branch of the fast food chain came under fire after offering to pay ‘volunteers’ in chicken vouchers (yes, really).
While most employees would enjoy a free meal now and again, the Hendersonville branch of Chick-fil-A ran a shocking initiative where it would only pay workers in food for every hour they worked.
On Facebook, a now-deleted recruitment post read: "We are looking for volunteers for our new Drive Thru Express! Earn 5 free entrées per shift (1 hr) worked. Message us for details."

Naturally, local job seekers and employers were unimpressed with the ‘opportunity’.
One Facebook user even wrote: “Don't think there are too many landlords around that will accept sandwiches as a form of rent payment."
While the branch has since apologised and discontinued the promotion, another site has been engaging the community in the right way.

After 56 years of service, the Greenbriar Mall branch finally closed it doors, but not before it invited members of the public to say goodbye to the historic site.
Posing with memorabilia and newspaper clipping from across its five decades, with locals saying goodbye to the original branch in style.
In a touching tribute, the staff also hung a sign saying: "Our last day of operations here at Chick-fil-A Greenbriar Mall will be Saturday. It has been our pleasure to serve you!"
Much to the annoyance of foodies though, Chick-Fil-A has yet to explain why the historic site has closed.

Originally opening in 1967, fast food founder S. Truett Cathy established the restaurant after finding success with his other diner The Dwarf House.
At the time, the chicken shop was much larger, almost as big as a two-car garage, according to the company’s website.
Despite having all this extra space, the menu consisted of just a few items, including the Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich which cost just 59 cents.

If you really wanted to whet your appetite, add-ons included lemonade salads, coleslaw, and lemon pie as it’s main dessert.
Since then, the chain restaurant has gone on to have branches in over 47 states, which isn’t bad for a fast-food joint that’s no spring chicken.
