Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch has spoken out about his ambitious expectations for his upcoming Marvel release.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees the cloaked figure of Cumberbatch sweep through not just one universe but a portal that opens up several.
The latest trailer's synopsis says the film 'pushes [the Multiverse's] boundaries further than ever before'.

However, while the sequel is set to push the MCU's creative and cinematic potential even further, Cumberbatch has said he thinks the film is also set to overtake expectations in another pretty massive way.
In an interview with Empire, Cumberbatch promised that it is 'a big, big movie'.
He stated: 'It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.'

Cumberbatch's claim is pretty hefty considering Spider-Man: No Way Home overtook Titanic on the box office's all-time top 10, breaking the $660 million mark.
Following on from the first instalment, Doctor Strange is set to go through a period of 'self-discovery' in the upcoming release.
Cumberbatch reflected: 'Strange is almost a stranger to himself before this film unfolds and reveals what, essentially, is in his nature, that he then has to either confront or resist or fall into or become.

'There are some very bold ideas, and some extraordinary tests of Strange and encounters. There are some very unexpected conclusions.'
Director Sami Raimi also reflected on how Doctor Strange is 'still learning about the Multiverse' and that part of this learning will be aided by new hero America Chavex (Xochitl Gomez).
'And here’s a character that can actually travel through [the multiverse]. [Doctor Strange is] such a know-it-all all the time, and to have to learn from a kid probably smarts,' Raimi noted.

As well as Cumberbatch's predictions that the upcoming release could end up being as successful as Spider-Man: No Way Home, fan theories have been growing surrounding surprise appearances that may surface in the film.
From Tom Cruise being 'spotted' by fans taking on the role of Iron Man in the sequel's trailer, to apparent 'proof' that Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool may even appear, Marvel fans are also convinced that the Fantastic Four could feature too.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit cinemas on May 6, 2022.
