He’s not the only original LOTR cast member who is keen to see the new Warner Brothers films upon their release.
Actor Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the original franchise, has even said he’d be up for a cameo during a recent interview.
It’s unsurprising given that the Oscar-winning trilogy by Peter Jackson made Serkis a household name, and grossed over $2.9 billion (£2.3b) worldwide.

Serkis was so overjoyed by how his iconic role was received by fans, that he even returned to Middle-Earth in The Hobbit trilogy.
Referring to the creative team behind the franchise, Serkis told press: “Peter Jackson, Fran and Philippa are sort of a second family that I have become part of and have gone on to make so many films with.”
Continuing, he admitted that Middle-Earth had ‘never left’ him and said: “….they are the best and most incredible people to work with. I think that there are so many other potential Middle-earth projects which could come about, and if they’re doing them, I would, of course, jump at the chance to have that relationship rekindled.”

However, the Yellowjackets actor struggled to hide his shock at the announcement – given that it’s been over 20 years since LOTR first hit cinemas.
Although Amazon released a new spin-off series in late 2022, fans have been eager to see Middle-Earth on the big screen.
Wood told the magazine: “I don’t know why I’m surprised because, of course there would be more movies.”

Like many fans though, the 42-year-old is keen for the films to stay authentic to Tolkien’s source material and wants future filmmakers to love the book as much Jackson did.
“It came out of a passion for these books and wanting to see them realized,” he told the publication, adding: “And I hope that that is ultimately what will drive everything forward with whatever these subsequent movies are. I just hope that it’s the same motivating factor at its core, whenever they hire a screenwriter and a filmmaker….”
Only time will tell as Warner Brothers have yet to give any further detail about their major deal with New Line Cinema.
