Pixar has dropped the first full trailer for the upcoming Buzz Lightyear movie, and it features one very familiar face...

Lightyear, which stars Chris Evans as the iconic space ranger super hero, is set to provide the 'definitive origin story' behind the beloved Toy Story character.

The trailer sees Lightyear as he prepares to launch on a test flight after appearing to have been marooned for several years on a planet with a colony of scientists.

After soaring through hyper space, Lightyear lands on an equally strange world, before encountering a space ship and having to fend off an army of robots, some alien creatures and none other than Emperor Zurg himself as he continues on his quest to infinity... and beyond.

Alongside the trailer, Disney also announced that Taika Waititi, Keke Palmer and Uzo Adoba would be among those joining Chris Evans to voice characters in the movie.

In a statement, Lightyear director Angus MacLane said: 'Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about. In Toy Story, there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further.

'So my Lightyear pitch was, 'What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.'

Today's trailer comes three months after Chris Evans revealed the first teaser trailer for the movie, tweeting 'I’m covered in goosebumps. And will be every time I watch this trailer. Or hear a Bowie song. Or have any thought whatsoever between now and [June] cause nothing has ever made me feel more joy and gratitude than knowing I’m a part of this and it’s basically always on my mind'

The Disney movie is set to launch to a screen near you on June 17.
