Margot Robbie has finally spoken about not being nominated in the Best Actress category for the Oscars.

With the Oscars quickly approaching, people were pretty sure that Margot Robbie would in be in for a Best Actress nomination for the summer hit Barbie - so they were left pretty shocked when that wasn't the case.

They were also equally surprised that director Greta Gerwig was not nominated for Best Director for turning Barbie into a cinematic phenomenon.

And they weren't the only ones.

Co-star Ryan Gosling, who has been nominated Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Ken in the movie, has even spoken out about the decision and admitted to being stunned by the move.

In a statement, Gosling wrote that he was 'extremely honored' to be nominated as well as 'proud' that it was for 'portraying a plastic doll named Ken'.

"But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film." he said.

"To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”

And America Ferrera, who was also nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, also expressed her disappointment, saying: "It's just so undeniable what they created, how unprecedented, how unexpected.

"It was such a brilliant, beautiful, world-building, unexpected achievement that happened to also be a global, cultural and box office phenomenon.

"I think most people feel like that's deserving."

However, Margot Robbie has since spoken out and explained that she doesn’t feel it is a bad thing she wasn’t nominated in the category.

“There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed,” the I, Tonya star said during a SAG panel on Tuesday night (February 1).

“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is.

“But it’s been an incredible year for all the films.”

Robbie added that she was 'beyond ecstatic' that the film still had multiple nominations across several categories.

The film has received a nomination for Best Costume Design and Production Design, with Gerwig also being nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay alongside co-writer and partner Noah Baumbach, and Robbie receiving a nomination for Best Producer alongside partner Tom Ackerley, David Heyman and Robbie Brenner.

Barbie also has two shots in the Original Song category - with Billie Eilish's 'What Was I Made For' and this summer's runaway hit, 'I'm Just Ken', also up for nomination.

So even without Robbie or Gerwig going home with two of the most prestigious awards, it is clear Barbie will still get some shine at the award ceremony.

Explaining the impact Barbie had, Robbie continued: “We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact.

“And it’s already done that, and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would. "And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
