Stephen King labeled Netflix mini-series a 'jaw-dropper' as Daredevil and Game of Thrones stars wow

Charlie Cox stars in the five-part series set in London

With so many Netflix series out there it's hard to know what's actually going to grip your attention and keep you hooked - but if you can trust anyone for a review, it's the certified 'king of Horror' Stephen King.

After bringing us beloved titles like IT, The Shining and Pet Sematary, King has safely established himself as someone who knows a good storyline. With that in mind it's worth listening when he has recommendations, and this time he's shown his support for one mini-series he described as a 'jaw-dropper'.

Starring Daredevil's Charlie Cox and Game of Thrones actor Oona Chaplin, who played Talisa Maegyr in the hit HBO series, the Netflix show is made up of just five episodes, making it perfect if you need something to binge this weekend - or just for tonight.

Set in the UK, the series focuses on Cox's character, Adam Lawrence, after he gets put in charge of MI6 when the head of the secretive department gets poisoned.

But not only does Adam have to deal with the task of being the new boss, but he also finds himself in the hot seat when it comes to the question of who could have carried out such a malicious act against the former head.

Titled Treason, the series unfolds as an investigation into the assassination attempt leads to suspicion.

Adam's relationship with an ex, who just happens to be a Russian spy played by Black Widow’s Olga Kurylenko, doesn't exactly help the situation, and Adam finds himself struggling to figure out who he can trust.

Cox spoke about the complications of his character in an interview with GQ following the release of the series, saying: "That's something that made it very interesting to me, that he wasn't this traditional hero, completely clean-cut and morally righteous all the time, who just found himself in a funny situation where he'd been unfairly judged or mistreated, and then he was out to clear his name. There was a history there."

Directed by Louise Hooper and Sarah O’Gorman, who also brought us The Witcher, Treason has earned a positive score of 72 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, not to mention the rave reviews from fans like King.

Fans have described the show as '10/10' (Netflix)

Writing on the social media platform BlueSky, King wrote of the series: "TREASON (Netflix): It’s no DIPLOMAT, but it’s fine entertainment which comes with a jaw-dropper in the last of 5 episodes. I didn’t see that coming."

Other viewers have decided the series as a 'thrill ride', with one writing: "Treason on Netflix [is] 10/10."

Treason is available to stream on Netflix now.
