Farrell was widely praised for his performance as Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a The Penguin in the film.
And he also clearly impressed the studio, who green-lit a spin-off show starring the Irish actor just over a week after the movie released.

The plot of the series has been kept under wraps by Warner Brothers - with Farrell himself staying fairly tight lipped about how the show will follow the iconic villain.
Acting as show runner, Lauren LeFranc wrote the show, with The Batman director Matt Reeves also acting as an executive producer.
Regarding the show, Reeves said in a statement: "Colin exploded off the screen as the Penguin in The Batman, and having the chance to thoroughly explore the inner life of that character on HBO Max is an absolute thrill.

"Dylan and I are so excited to work with Lauren in continuing Oz’s story as he grabs violently for power in Gotham.”
And fans are loving the trailer, with several noting how well it appears to continue the gritty realistic tone of The Batman.
One posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying: "It's going to be a great expansion of the universe, it looks like a continuation exactly set to the film."
In a comment under the trailer on the subreddit r/television, one commenter said: "Farrell was easily the best highlight in a movie that was chock full of them.

"You can tell he really loves the role and I’m glad he gets to sink his teeth into it in a tv show.
"This looks pretty damn good."
However, while we will be getting a sequel to The Batman, James Gunn has confirmed that it will be separate to his planned reboot of the DC Universe.

When addressing how The Batman fits in to his plans, Gunn said, as reported by IGN:
"Matt is working on [The Batman II], which he thinks of as a Batman crime saga, which also includes the Penguin TV series.
"It is its own thing and he's hard at work on that. He came in and pitched us some amazing, really cool stuff the other day.
"So our plan is for that to continue."
