People are calling Al Pacino's premature announcement of Best Picture at the Oscars one of the biggest mistakes since the La La Land and Moonlight mixup.
It wouldn't be the Oscars without one mixup during the ceremony, and this year Al Pacino caused a stir after he skipped over the nominees for Best Picture.
In fact, people are even comparing the gaffe to the disastrous debacle around La La Land and Moonlight at the 89th Academy Awards.

This saw the announcement mistakenly being made for La La Land, when in fact the Best Picture category was won by Moonlight.
People had even been in the middle of speeches when the mistake was communicated.
The mistake reportedly happened as the announcer was given the envelope for Best Actress, won by La La Land's Emma Stone, rather than for Best Picture.
Luckily on this occasion, no one had to be awkwardly escorted from the stage to be replaced by someone else.

But it's safe to say that it did bring things to something of an anticlimax with the announcement of the final, and biggest, award of the evening - Best Picture.
I'm sure you will have noticed that usually before the award is announced, they first go through all the nominees.
This ensures that even those that don't win get the recognition they deserve, and also to just remind everyone of the nominations.

But announcer Al Pacino skipped right through this bit, and instead of introducing the nominees before announcing the award, he just opened up the envelope straight away and announced the winner of Best Picture.
This, of course, was Oppenheimer, which ended up taking home an impressive haul of seven awards at the Oscars this year.
In addition to Best Picture, those included a win for Christopher Nolan in Best Director, as well as for Cillian Murphy in Best Actor, and Robert Downey Jr. in Best Supporting Actor.

People have taken to social media to share their thoughts on Al Pacino's gaffe at the Academy Awards, with some even comparing it to the La La Land / Moonlight fiasco.
One wrote: "Al Pacino creating a Moonlight/La La Land moment while still reading the right name. Master class."
Another wasn't convinced it was quite the same magnitude, writing: "Whatever just happened with the Best Picture presentation wasn't a La La Land/Moonlight screwup, but Pacino just blurting out 'I see Oppenheimer here!' was definitely not how it was supposed to go."
A third tweeted: "If Al Pacino said the winner was La La Land that would have been the best moment of the night."
