Divergent author Veronica Roth has said the film franchise of her books 'feels complete' despite the final movie never coming to fruition.
It was 2016 when the third movie in the franchise, Allegiant, debuted in cinemas across the globe - and fans have been wondering what's next for a while.
Very much like the conclusions of Harry Potter and Hunger Games, Allegiant was meant to be split in two parts.

However, due to poor box office returns on the first part, it was decided that the second part would not see the light of day.
Despite that, Roth has told People in a recent interview she is content with how the film franchise concluded in the end.
She said: "I mean, breaking things in two was all the rage at the time. That was why that decision was made.

"But at that point, I think I always felt peace about it just because I knew the movies were taking a different track than the books, and if you change the lead up, you change the ending. So I kind of felt like at that point ... I feel like that third movie, I don't know — there's a lot we could talk about with it. But it's its own thing.
"It feels complete to me, relatively speaking, because what does that even mean at that point?"
Roth was then asked about separating books into separate movies, to which she replied: "I just feel like it's got to be a big, long book in order for that to make sense."
While we wouldn't want to spoil it, Roth was heavily criticized by fans following the climax of Allegiant.

It got to the point where the author even received death threats online, something Roth wrote about in a 2021 Salon essay.
However, Roth says she's no longer 'afraid of the internet' like she was back at the time, adding she understands why some fans were upset with her for the direction she took.
She told People: "I listened to the series again on audiobook recently, and this was the first time I had re-experienced any of the books pretty much since Allegiant came out, because for a while it just reminded me of the internet, intense stress. I'm obviously a lot older, and I think reading Allegiant again I understand better why there was such a strong reaction to this, just because of having that time and perspective.

"It's interesting to reflect."
