Harry Potter vs Die Hard isn’t something that you could have predicted as being an argument for the most Christmassy film, but here we are.
Now that the festive season is well and truly upon us, there’s something that fans of the wizarding world want to get off their chests.
Harry Potter is ‘more Christmas than Die Hard’.

We all know that the popular action flick starring Bruce Willis and the late Alan Rickman (who was also in the HP franchise).
Die Hard centers around New York City policeman John McClane (Willis), who visits his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) on Christmas Eve.

But when the Christmas celebrations at his wife's company is stopped by a group of terrorists, McClane does Rambo on their asses and things get tense.
It’s long been hailed as the ultimate Christmas flick by its fans - despite what Willis himself has said - however, others believe that it’s simply an action film that’s set around the Christmas period.
While the Harry Potter series has never really been dubbed Christmas films, you’ve got to admit that when you watched the films as a kid around the December time, it made you feel all cosy.
And of course, there was Christmas at Hogwarts on screen.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is particularly of interest to its fanbase who claim it should be known as a Christmas classic, and they’ve picked out the perfect reason.
According to fans and the official Harry Potter TikTok account, it’s got all of the hallmarks of a festive flick.
Listing three reasons in a video, even you’ll be agreeing at the end of the list.

The first point put its ‘gorgeous’ snowy landscape and decorations as the top contender, as well as a scene of Hagrid dragging along a tree ready for decorating.
The second thing on the list was its soundtrack, which is quite Christmassy, you’ll have to admit.
Then there was the Christmas scene in the hall, and Harry waking up to find that he has gifts, probably for the very first time considering how he was treated by the Dursley’s.

Commenters are adamant that it’s a Christmas classic, with one person writing: "Any movie that has a Christmas celebration, decor, or theme inside of it...is a Christmas movie to me.”
Another wrote: "More Christmas than Die Hard. I said it."
Because of the reasons listed, this was why a third person said they 'watch them every Christmas'.
While you might be struggling with the concept of it being 'more Christmas than Die Hard', director John McTiernan said in a 2020 interview that Die Hard is, in fact, a Christmas movie, but only because the crew and cast began to find joy in working on it.
He said: "And that is how Die Hard became, we hadn't intended it to be a Christmas movie, but the joy that came from it is what turned it in to a Christmas movie. And that's really the best I can tell you about it."
