Only one Game of Thrones character could technically make an appearance in House of the Dragon

As House of the Dragon season two continues to unfold, the fanfare for the Game of Thrones spinoff is yet again at its height.

Beyond giving longtime fans of Game of Thrones something to enjoy five years after its finale, House of the Dragon also gives background and further world-building for fans old and new to enjoy, as the show takes place nearly two centuries before the original series.

Because of this time gap, one might assume that there won’t be much overlapping between the two HBO series when it comes to characters. However, technically there is one being in the original Game of Thrones that could make an appearance in House of Dragon.

Now, it isn’t a main character of the original series like Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen, who wouldn’t be born for another century-and-a-half after House of the Dragon began.

Similarly, we aren’t talking about a noteworthy character from the new show, like Daemond Targaryen, living for hundreds of years and having a brief moment of screen time in Game of Thrones either.

Instead, it is none other than Melisandre who could appear in the new show, as her character was technically born long before the time of both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

To give some background, Melisandre–also known as the Red Woman or the Red Witch–was a recurring character that appeared in 29 episodes of Game of Thrones from seasons 2-8. While she appears in the show to be quite young, it was eventually revealed that the witch was a staggering 400 years old during the events of Game of Thrones.

This means that Melisandre could quite easily appear in House of the Dragon at the spry young age of 200 years old.

The idea has been circulated by many fans online that maybe Melisandre could make an appearance in the ongoing show, though many aren’t quite sure how she would fit into the story, as the show already has a witch–Alys Rivers–that is causing a stir in the new series.

Nonetheless, people are still excited at the thought of Melisandre making an appearance, with one poster on X (formerly Twitter) saying: “I'm waiting for Melisandre to show up in House of the Dragon. She would have been 200 years old during that saga.”

However, some are not as fond of the Red Witch potentially making an appearance.

Another user on X stated bluntly: “People keep comparing it to GoT and it’s a separate story. Everyone wants Melisandre to appear. This isn’t Game of Thrones. It’s House of the Dragon.“
