A new Jake Gyllenhaal film is drawing a mixed reaction and vigorous pushback from viewers after claims it is the 'best film of 2024'.
Jake Gyllenhaal has quite a catalogue of brilliant films, Source Code, Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler, Brothers, the man regularly hits the mark with his performances and the projects he joins.
However, his latest 2024 flick is winning significant praise from some viewers and ire and frustration from others.

The film is a remake of the Patrick Swayze led 1989 original of the same name.
We are, of course, talking about Roadhouse.
The 2024 film synopsis essentially sees Ex-UFC fighter Dalton, played by Gyllenhaal, take a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse only to have his world turn upside down.

The film also stars former MMA fighter Conor McGregor as the main antagonist.
While the film hit streaming on Amazon Prime earlier this month, Netflix viewers took to the Netflix Bangers Facebook group to praise the flick.
One user simply called it the ‘Best Movie in 2024.’
Another said: “Great movie and Conner stole the show great actor.

“Great film, if you don’t understand why this switch your brain off action film isn’t good then you should have re watched Schindlers list,” commented another.
“It wasn't Oscar worthy but thoroughly entertaining. Love JG in anything he does,” added another user.
However some social media users couldn’t believe such positive takes of the film and remarked that it was in fact awful.
“Low standards.... It was a 3/10 at best. If you think this was good then I would hate to see what you rate as bad,” one user wrote in response.

“This was the WORST movie I have ever seen! It was so cheesy and stupid,” another added.
“Connor ruins the movie with his horrendous acting,” commented a third.
“If you like men constantly fighting then this is for you, I thought it was boring and a weak story line. Do not recommend,” another added.
“There is only one Road House and that belongs to Patrick Swayze. Sorry but the new Road House was not good at all,” commented another unimpressed viewer.

The film seems to be a bit of the middle of the road when it comes to critics as well. On Rotten Tomatoes the film does have tomatometer score of 60 percent after over 170 reviews.
So, maybe best to give it a go and decide for yourself.
