Shrek fans are in a bit of a frenzy over the teaser for the new movie, and seemingly not for the right reasons.
The Shrek franchise has transcended the ages, standing firm as the gift that keeps on giving more than 20 years since Dreamworks dropped the iconic 2001 movie.
For instance, consider the latest social media storm around the mysterious 'Duloc woman.'

Anyway, since then we've had three more hilarious animated movies in the years that followed up until Shrek Forever After in 2010.
Now, our favorite family and fairytale land is back again for a fifth film, due to hit our screens in December next year.
While that is quite a wait, fans have been treated to a sneak peek teaser this week which has left some apparently filled with dread.

Among the criticism is the new animation style of Shrek, his wife, Fiona, our beloved 'trusty steed' Donkey and... well, everyone.
And some fans are brutally saying it looks like 'soulless 3D slop'.
They say it looks like Shrek has had too much plastic surgery - and not in the chiselled way he appeared when he became human and prince-like after drinking a magic potion in Shrek 2.

The teaser opens with Eddie Murphy's voice as Donkey asking the infamous magic mirror: "Who is the fairest of them all?" to which the mirror responds: "Why, Shrek of course."
The mirror turns into a scrolling showreel of Shrek looking his best, with AI-altered images of him looking ripped with a six-pack.
At the sight of sexy Shrek, his teen daughter, played by Zendaya, says 'ew' while Fiona, voiced by Cameron Diaz, jibes: "Mama like."
Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers, then says: "Who is making this stuff?"

But dozens of fans raced to social media to say the animated family looks 'butchered' and joked that they want to 'sue' those responsible.
"Rhinoplasty, lip filler, cheek implants, chin implant, jaw shave, brow bone reduction, buccal fat removal, botox and eye lift," one angry comment read.

"Wow it actually used to look better and more detailed before," another said as they pointed out the new animation style glazes over wrinkles and shadows.

On Fiona's new look, fans wrote: "Are you seeing this.. What did they do to her?"
An aggrieved fan added: "My b**** was always FLY, ogre or not."
"Why do they look like they're going to eat me alive?", another said.
Another disgruntled viewer commented: "Shrek has had a style and look that hasn't changed since 2001. Now he's the Puss in Boots art style, and it triggered everyone's fight or flight."
Countless more slammed the switch-up as 'disrespectful' and 'akin to heresy' to the original art style and animators, and are calling on the franchise to change it back.
Others, however, have jumped to the animators' defense, saying the new look reflects the 'time skip' and age of the characters, given it's been 15 years since the last movie and said it's 'ok to change.'
"[Fiona] is a middle aged mom, what do you expect," a supporter wrote.
"This literally looks good," another said. "A lot of you guys are extremely blindsided by nostalgia."
