Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has said Stranger Things has ‘ruined’ Kate Bush after propelling her 1985 hit 'Running Up That Hill' into the charts again.
As you most likely know, Bush’s track featured in the fourth season of Stranger Things and has since amassed a whole army of new, younger fans.
But the song’s recent flash of popularity hasn’t gone down too well with Waititi, who admitted that he ‘loves’ the show but joked that he was ‘annoyed’ about Bush’s new fans.

The filmmaker said he feels a sense of ‘ownership’ over Bush’s music – presumably because he grew up when it was popular the first time around – and joked that the recent influx of fans is annoying to an ‘old a**ehole’ such as himself.
During an interview with NME, Waititi was asked if he hoped that Guns N’ Roses would have a similar resurgence after appearing in his latest flick Thor: Love and Thunder, to which he replied: “You mean how they ruined Kate Bush? I love that show, but as someone who feels a real ownership of Kate Bush music… I’m really annoyed!
“I’ve become one of those old a**eholes who’s like, ‘These kids never listened to Kate Bush, they’ve heard one song on a TV show! They don’t know Kate Bush! I know Kate Bush!’”

However, one person who is certainly not annoyed is Bush – after her song topped the charts, she posted a blog to her website in which she said she’d been overwhelmed by the song’s newly-found popularity and praised Stranger Things' creators Matt and Ross Duffer for including the track.
She wrote: “By featuring Running Up That Hill in such a positive light – as a talisman for Max (one of the main female characters) – the song has been brought into the emotional arena of her story. Fear, conflict and the power of love are all around her and her friends.
“I salute the Duffer Brothers for their courage – taking this new series into a much more adult and darker place. I want to thank them so much for bringing the song into so many people’s lives.

“I’m overwhelmed by the scale of affection and support the song is receiving and it’s all happening really fast, as if it’s being driven along by a kind of elemental force. I have to admit I feel really moved by it all.
“Thank you so very much for making the song a No 1 in such an unexpected way.”
