Despite being one of the most recognizable directors on the planet, Taika Waititi has said no one will remember him in a few decades' time.
The Jojo Rabbit director made the comments during a recent interview, where he also spoke about his illustrious career.
Even with an Oscar under his belt, the New Zealander still believes he will be forgotten in the near future.

The filmmaker has also been fairly critical about his past self during the interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Waititi admitted he had been pretty persistent about getting projects green-lit in the past, claiming that this helped him in the cut-throat film industry.
“I think it’s narcissism, like I was convinced my entire life that all my ideas were great,” the Thor: Love and Thunder director said.

Reflecting on his career both on the big and small screen, Waititi added: “I now know they’re not. It was like ‘The Truman Show.’ I used to think everything was put in front of me for my own amusement. And I would be like, ‘Wow, I get to be me, and everyone’s just doing stuff for me.’ And then also that everyone is an idiot, which I still think.”
While Waititi may have been full of self-confidence in his younger days, he is not so sure about how long his legacy will last - even claiming his movies will be ‘irrelevant’ before too long.
During the interview, he said that it was time to ‘take the pressure off’ as he'd be forgotten before too long.

“People are so obsessed with likes or leaving behind a legacy, being remembered,” Waititi noted. “Here’s the thing: No one’s going to remember us. What’s the name of the director of ‘Casablanca’? Arguably one of the greatest films of all time. No one knows his name. How the f**k do I expect to be remembered? So who cares?”
Realising this, Waititi has had a more relaxed approach to filmmaking recently.
“Let’s just live, make some movies. They’ll be obsolete and irrelevant in 15 or 20 years. And so will I, and then I’ll die and someone else can do it,” he pointedly added. “This whole idea of chasing, chasing, chasing this life. It’s like, do we have to actually work this hard? Maybe not.”
While Waititi may be questioning what legacy he will leave behind, we think we’ll still be watching his MCU entries for years to come.
