Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has explained how he fought tooth and nail to get Henry Cavill back as Superman in his latest movie Black Adam, despite the fact that Warner Bros. didn’t want to do it.
Here he is explaining how it all went down:

The Rock isn’t exactly someone you’d want to argue with, is he?
On top of being absolutely huge physically, he’s also one of the world’s most bankable stars, and was at one stage the best paid actor in the world.
It would be fair to say the man has a lot of clout.
Anyway, when he was making the latest DC Universe film Black Adam, Johnson really believed that for the whole thing to work, the ‘greatest’ superhero of them all would have to turn up.

That means – in that universe – getting Henry Cavill as Superman in the flick.
Now, the production company Warner Bros. weren’t mad about the idea of getting Cavill back in, but Johnson ‘fought hard’ with them about it, because he believed that in order to establish his titular character as ‘the most powerful, unstoppable force in the DC universe’ he’d have to get Superman back on board.
“We have to bring back the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time in any universe,” he said.
“And you guys know who I’m talking about?

“Of course, that is Superman. And that’s Henry Cavill.”
The Rock then went on to say that the studio ‘inexplicably and inexcusably’ didn’t want to bring the character back, for whatever reason.
But, Johnson is a hard man to say no to and in the end he got his way.

He explained: “This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back and years of strategic conversations and we were not going to take no for an answer,
“There was no way, there’s no viable logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC Universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines.
“It’s impossible to do.”
He continued: “It all comes back to where Superman you have to have Superman in the mix. “So that’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill, and there was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back Henry Cavill is our generation Superman and, in my opinion, the greatest Superman.

“And I mean that respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve, but the greatest Superman of all time.”
Now that Superman is back in the fold, Johnson believes they can now ‘build out the DC Universe, properly, strategically and smartly’.
He also explained how the ‘hierarchy of power in the DC Universe has changed and, of course, now we have new leadership at DC and at Warner Bros.’
That seems to bode well for the DC Universe in future then.
And if The Rock is happy with it, they’re probably going to do alright.
