There are a few things Monsters Inc. has in common with Toy Story, but there's one particularly mindblowing link which fans are only just spotting.
It goes without saying; as well as both being Pixar animated movies, Toy Story and Monsters Inc. are both absolute classics.
They both focus on non-human characters, feature a pair of unlikely best friends, and take us on wild adventures while simultaneously pulling at the heartstrings.
But self-described movie-detective Ivan Mars took to Instagram this week to point out one more specific link, stemming from a scene in Monsters Inc.

In the clip, a large blue monster is seen fleeing a child's bedroom after failing to scare them.
Obviously, fans of the film will know that it's literally the monsters' job to scare kids, as that's where they rack up energy.
But for a kid to be the one to scare the monster? Well, that must be one scary child.
Mars pointed out that if you look past the monster to the quick glimpse we get of the child's bedroom beyond, you can see a poster on the wall.

This poster just so happens to be the same as one we see elsewhere: in the home of Toy Story antagonist Sid.
The link seems to suggest that the monsters from Monsters Inc. creep into the Toy Story world to scare the children who own toys like Woody and Buzz.
"No way," Mars wrote as he made the connection. "Sid is actually the real monster.

Viewers have been left stunned by the connection between the two Pixar movies, with one fan commenting: “I want a story on Sid, now lol. From his childhood, up to his demise.”
Another wrote: "I’m a huge Pixar universe theorist and even this one slipped by me."
However, some viewers have noticed a flaw with the theory, pointing out that the monsters offer up some details about the child that managed to scare the blue creature.

One viewer quoted the film, writing: "Yes, but the monster said "she got this close to me", and his partner responded "she wasn't scared of you? She was only six!". So it wasn't Sid."
This definitely pokes a hole in the Mars' theory, but one viewer pointed out that the child who scared the monster could potentially have been Sid's little sister, Molly.
While we never got to see Sid himself being scared by a monster, it's still fun to see how the worlds of Toy Story and Monsters Inc. overlap - even if it's just by having the same poster on the wall.
