André 3000 has left fans shocked after announcing his first solo album.
It was more than 16 years ago that the legendary rapper dropped Idlewild, which was the sixth record he released with Outkast.
However, he's back with his debut album called New Blue Sun.

In an interview with NPR, he explained that this collection of music will be very different from what you're probably expecting.
The outlet described the record as a 'stunning 87-minute mind-bender' that was 'minimalist and experimental, tribal and transcendent'.

We'll be getting 'no bars, no beats, no sub-bass'. Instead, there will be a lot of flutes and other wind instruments. Yes, really.
He's already prepped his loyal fans for what's to come as one of the song titles is 'I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A 'Rap' Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time'.

"With the song titles, we kind of kept it playful a lot of times," he said.

"Or we got a little raw because I wanted to still feel light at times. Or give it some type of balance, make it just attractive for people to come in.”
But André says this body of work is a 'natural progression' for him.
He revealed to NPR that he's been 'interested in winds for a long time' and he enjoys 'messing with instruments'.

While he knows it might not be exactly what his fans might want to hear, he's happy to be exploring something that makes him happy.
"I think people feel like I’m sitting around on rap albums, or sitting around and I’m just not putting them out in that way. And no it’s not like that," he explained to the outlet.
“In my mind, I really would like to make a rap album.
"So maybe that happens one day, but I got to find a way to say what I want to say in an interesting way that’s appealing to me at this age.”
