Shocking footage shows Elton John having meltdown during heated exchange while recording new album

Grammy Award-winning singer Elton John was seen getting frustrated with his new album's collaborators

Surprising footage shows the moment Elton John almost throws in the towel while creating his upcoming album.

The pop icon recently announced that he's releasing a new album with Brandi Carlile titled Who Believes In Angels?.

The album is poised for release in early April, which will be Elton's first in four years.

Impressively, Elton and Brandi recorded the album with the help of producer Andrew Watt at Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound Studios in just 20 days.

Made up of ten songs, the likes of Red Hot Chilli Peppers' Chad Smith and Pino Palladino worked on the highly anticipated album.

To tease the album's pending release, Elton has released some raw footage that was taken while he, Brandi, Benny and Andrew were working on Who Believes In Angles? – the first time Elton's ever allowed cameras to document the process.

In the short film's trailer shared to the 'Rocketman' hitmaker's YouTube channel yesterday (February 5), Elton is seen growing increasingly frustrated and even threatens to leave the studio at one point.

Elsewhere, Andrew brands Elton is 'impatient' as the singer goes on to slam his headphones against the piano keys.

Elton, who is losing his eyesight, also tears up some music sheets before telling Andrew that he's 'going home'.

In the voice over of the trailer for the short film, Elton says: "[The] reality is, I was exhausted. I had a lot of doubt, and I was a nightmare.

"I was angry, I was tired, I was irritable," the 77-year-old added.

He also noted that there was 'tension in the studio' as the trailer panned to show Brandi say that she was 'having a hard time connecting to Elton'.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Elton reflected on the album and hailed it one of the hardest to create.

"This record was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life," he shared.

"It has given me a place where I know I can move forward. Who Believes In Angels? feels like going into another era and I’m pushing the door open to come into the future. I have everything I’ve done behind me and it’s been brilliant, amazing. But this is the new start for me. As far as I’m concerned, this is the start of my career Mark 2."

Brandi went on added: "I’m still reeling from the fact that I got to do it. I think all ships rise with Elton John’s standards for songwriting, and it was an incredibly challenging and inspiring environment to work in, everybody throwing in ideas, everybody listening to everybody else’s ideas."

Despite the tension in the studio at some points of the recording process, Brandi said that it 'felt like a family.'
