The world's most beautiful dog has been revealed according to science

The top dog might come as a surprise to some...

I'm sure we all think our own dog is the most beautiful dog there has ever been, but experts worked out which is technically the most beautiful of them all (according to science).

When you think of particularly pretty dogs, it's likely that breeds such as the Golden Retriever or Poodle might spring to mind — but these two popular breeds didn't even make it into the top ten.

Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there's something known as the 'golden ratio', which is a specific mathematical ideal which uses set measurements to determine how aesthetically pleasing something is.

For example, using the golden radio, the likes of Zendaya, Jodie Comer, Bella Hadid, and Ariana Grande were named as some of the most beautiful women in the world.

In regards to men, famous faces such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emily In Paris star Lucien Laviscount, and Paul Mescal were dubbed as the most handsome men when using the infamous ratio.

And the same ratio has been used for dog breeds too.

In recent years, those at money.co.uk put their heads together to use the golden ratio on some of the world's most popular dog breeds.

Basically, the closer the proportions of each dog breed to the proportions of the golden ratio, the more statistically beautiful the breed is considered to be.

The top ten most beautiful breeds there percentage on the golden ratio, as per York Press, goes as follows:

10) Pembroke Welsh Corgi - 83.9 percent

9) Norfolk Terrier - 84.3 percent

8) Italian Greyhound - 84.9 percent

7) Tolling Retriever - 85.0 percent

6) Weimaraner - 85.6 percent

5) Welsh Terrier - 85.9 percent

4) Rhodesian Ridgeback - 86.0 percent

3) Border Collie - 86.7 percent

2) West Highland White Terrier - 87.5 percent

1) Cairn Terrier - 88.7 percent

Meanwhile, some of the least beautiful breeds included the Shit Tzu, Bulldog, and Rottweiler.

Commenting on the findings at the time, pet insurance expert at money.co.uk, Salman Haqqi, said: "Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and regardless of the ranking position of a dog’s breed, every dog no matter its shape or size should be appreciated.

"One of the most important ways to care for any dog is to make sure it is fully insured so that any unforeseen expenses can be easily taken care of, allowing you and your pets to enjoy your time together without worry."
