If you were told to name the ten most handsome men in the world, you'd almost definitely name ex-soccer star David Beckham.
Brad Pitt, Superman's Henry Cavill, Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Gosling, Idris Elba, Tom Brady, Zac Efron, Kim Tae-hyung and Cristiano Ronaldo would probably all be mentioned the most amount of times.
But would it surprise you to hear that only one of those strikingly handsome men actually made the list?

Idris Elba please step forward.
The London-born actor, rapper, DJ and singer ranked ninth on the list.
But what is the ranking all about and how can you 'scientifically' rank peoples beauty?

Facial cosmetic surgeon Dr Julian De Silva used technology to determine where handsome men sit on the 'Greek Golden Ratio of Beauty'.
He said: "These brand new computer mapping techniques allow us to solve some of the mysteries of what it is that makes someone physically beautiful and the technology is useful when planning patients’ surgery.”
But what is the 'golden ratio'?

According to the Centre for Surgery, it is a consistent measure of beauty often referred to in the context of facial aesthetics as the 'Phi Ratio'.
Adding that the 'proportion, 1.618 to 1, is believed to provide the blueprint for what constitutes a harmoniously proportioned face'.
Through De Silva's analysis, he was able to determine the ten best looking men on the planet - in the name of science anyway... although I don't think you could argue too much with the list.
His findings saw Aaron Taylor-Johnson rank number one, which although I was surprised, I think it was merely because of how I remembered him as Kick-Ass, and is heavily backed to become the next James Bond - we can see why now.

De Silva said: “Aaron was the clear winner when all elements of the face were measured for physical perfection.
“What makes Aaron so exceptional is the overall shape of his face, which, with a score of 99.2%, is only 0.8% off being perfect. The width and length of his nose is almost perfect, too, at 98.8%. He also has a beautifully sculpted chin which scored well at 95%.
“All his scores were really strong except for his eye spacing at 89%, the gap between his nose and lip (89.6%) and his lips (86%)."
