A man is determined to keep his youth alive and has dedicated millions of dollars to turning back the years, most fascinatingly with a machine that allows him to do the equivalent of one hell of a workout.

Bryan Johnson is 46 years old has already spent a staggering $2 million in order to keep himself young, at least looking young.

Johnson has been candid about using experimental medical programs with the overall aim of reversing his age.

Regularly posting on social media, Johnson shared a machine he has that allows him to do a workout equivalent to '20,000 sit ups' in just 30 minutes.

Yeah that wasn't a typo, 20,000, which even for the healthiest person would be a mamoth task to get through if you gave them a week, let alone less than an hour.

You can see him using his sit-up machine here:

The program, which he has named project Blueprint, has allegedly give him the lung capacity and fitness of an 18-year-old. Which is pretty impressive no matter how you look at it.

Johnson worked alongside a team of 30 doctors to closely monitor every part of his body and fitness levels in his bid to turn back the clock.

But - as you can imagine - attempting to reverse your biological age is not an easy task, and it's not quite clear just how effectively and sustainably this can be done either.

The plan has Johnson working out for at least an hour every day, including three high-intensity workouts per week.

Part of his workout routine involves the fancy machine you can see him using in the clip above, which he says puts his body through the equivalent of 20,000 sit ups in just half an hour.

In the clip, Johnson explains: “What it feels like is, it’s pulling your entire stomach out. It’s like ripping it out.”

After the machine does its thing, he adds: “I thought I would be terribly sore after doing this, but actually I am not. Surprisingly.

"But I would say my mid-section has never felt stronger in my life and it does change how I feel athletically.”

Alongside his fitness regime, Johnson follows a strict vegan diet, consuming 1,977 calories per day.

While his sleep schedule sees him heading off to the land of nod at the same time every day, after spending two hours wearing special blue light glasses.

And, of course, there’s no point in him doing all this if he’s not actively tracking it.

According to Bloomberg, Johnson has to undergo numerous medical procedures each month, with the outlet describing some of them as being 'quite extreme and painful'.

In a post published on Medium last year, Johnson opened up about his plans.

"With my world-class team of doctors, researchers and clinicians, if I am able to reverse my measured biological age by 1.01 years for every one year that passes, that is evidence that we have reached the first stage of aging escape velocity where life expectancy increases faster than passed time," he wrote.

"As for the magic pill, it appears that for the foreseeable future, achieving and maintaining peak wellness is just going to be a lot of really hard work."
