Woman accused of trying to kill husband because he 'doesn't appreciate' everything she did for him

Michelle Peters was arrested on two charges after it was alleged she tried to poison her husband

A woman from Missouri is facing first-degree domestic assault charges after being accused of attempting to poison her husband using weed killer.

Michelle Peters, 47, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and armed criminal action, for which she has now been charged.

Michelle has been accused of secretly adding weed killer to her husband's soda on a number of occasions in May and June.

Video evidence has emerged which allegedly shows Michelle adding Roundup weedkiller to a bottle of Mountain Dew, the Laclede County Sheriffs' Office has said.

Around May 1 Mr Peters said that he had noticed a strange taste in his soda but had not stopped consuming it.

However, within a few weeks of first noticing the odd flavour Mr Peters says he began to become ill.

His symptoms allegedly included a sore throat, vomiting, nausea, coughing up mucus, and diarrhoea.

Mr Peters realised that he was the only person in the house who drank the Mountain Dew drink, and began to suspect that someone had been tampering with it.

But when Michelle was confronted about her husband's illness she allegedly dismissed it as a bout of Covid.

Mr Peters claims she then suggested that he stayed away from the pair's grandchildren as a result.

While Michelle was being interviewed by police over the allegations, she allegedly claimed that she had been mixing the soda with the weed killer to use as a weed killing agent that she had seen on Pinterest.

She allegedly went on to admit that she had put insecticide in the Mountain Dew, claiming that she had mistaken the soda bottle for a bottle of Roundup weed killer.

Weed killer contains a chemical called glyphosphate which can be extremely dangerous if consumed.

Symptoms might include diarrhoea, vomiting, throat pain, nausea, increased saliva production, and even lethal consequences.

Mr Peters claimed that his wife had been angry with him as he had not shown her appreciation for a 50th birthday party.

Michelle allegedly told police that her husband had been behaving selfishly and that the pair had been facing several challenges in their relationship.

Peters is currently being held without bond and is due for a bond review hearing on July 2. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
