Suspect in Ukrainian refugee train murder claims chilling 'motive' behind the attack from jail

Decarlos Brown Jr. has shared an apparent motive behind the murder of Iryna Zarutska.

On August 22, Zarutska was stabbed to death on a North Carolina train. Video footage has since identified Brown as a key suspect in her death and he has been charged with first-degree murder.

Brown is also facing federal charges and President Trump has called for him to face the death penalty. The alleged murderer is said to have mental health issues and is a diagnosed schizophrenic.

Brown is currently in custody, and he allegedly spoke to his sister Tracey Brown over the phone. In supposed audio one of their conversations recorded six days after his arrest, a man's voice allegedly belonging to the suspect recalls the attack to Tracey.

"I hurt my hand, stabbing her. I don't even know the lady," the voice said, as per audio obtained by Daily Mail.

The audio went on: "I never said not one word to the lady at all. That's scary, ain't it. Why would somebody stab somebody for no reason?"

He further called for the police to investigate the 'materials' inside him that were 'controlling' him.

Seemingly speaking about the 'materials', Brown allegedly said as an apparent motive for Zarutska's death: "They just lashed out on her, that's what happened. Whoever was working the materials they lashed out on her. That's all there is to it."

"Now they really gotta investigate what my body was exposed to," the audio continued. "Now they gotta do an investigation as to who was the motive behind what happened."

Brown is believed to have previously mentioned 'materials' in his body.

Back in January, he was arrested for 'misuse of the 911 system', The Telegraph reports. During a welfare check, Brown told officers about 'man-made' materials inside him that were controlling his body.

Brown was left 'upset' by the way police responded and called 911 when they were still there, which resulted in him being charged.

The family of the Ukrainian refugee has spoken out following Zarutska's devastating passing.

"We are heartbroken beyond words. Iryna came here to find peace and safety, and instead her life was stolen from her in the most horrific way," a spokesperson said on behalf of the grieving family.

"No family should have to go through this," they added.

The family moved to the US in 2022 to flee war-torn Ukraine.
