David DePape, the man accused of breaking into Nancy Pelosi’s home and attacked her husband with a hammer, said he was sorry he ‘didn’t get more of them’.
It was one of several bizarre remarks made by the 42-year-old man in a recorded phone interview with local California news station KTVU following the release of police body camera footage on Friday (27 January).

DePape, who is in San Francisco County Jail on state charges of attempted murder and elder abuse as well as charges in federal court for kidnapping, spoke for just under five and a half minutes.
He told the news station that he attacked Paul Pelosi, 82, because people’s individual liberties are under attack.
“Liberty isn’t dying, it’s being killed systematically and deliberately,” he declared.
“People killing it have names and addresses, so I got their names and addresses so I could pay them a little visit…have a heart-to-heart chat about their bad behaviour."

He said he should ‘have come better prepared’ when he made his mock apology.
“I want to apologize to everyone. I messed up. What I did was really bad. I’m so sorry I didn’t get more of them. It’s my own fault. No one else is to blame. I should have come better prepared.”
As his ramblings continued, DePape claimed he had ‘a website of over 300 pages ‘ and that he spent ‘all my time exposing government corruption online’.
He said: “I’m in the process of trying to set up a new website out of the reach of tyrannically global racists and their internet censors.”

DePape said he intended to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage. The American politician served as the 52nd speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023.
The attack, which left the businessman with severe head injuries, happened in the early hours of 28 October, 2022.
DePape allegedly broke into Pelosi’s San Francisco home shouting “Where’s Nancy?” before attacking her husband with a hammer.

Paul Pelosi was hospitalised with blunt force injuries and underwent skull surgery. Doctors said at the time that they expected him to make a full recovery.
He was able to return to public duties a month after the incident, when he appeared alongside his wife at the Kennedy Center Honors. He wore a hat and one glove to conceal his injuries.
DePape pleaded not guilty to all state charges.
