The Madrid restaurant was found to have violated several health codes

A raid of a Chinese restaurant uncovered a startling alternative being using for 'roast duck' and police have revealed what else they found.

Long have we all enjoyed our Chinese restaurants across the world and when you order from the menu, you expect it to be as described.

However, Jin Gu in the Usera district of Madrid, Spain, was raided at the end of March after police received various complaints.

The restaurant was then shut down and was noted to have had violated numerous health codes.

According to the police, they found a cockroach-infested kitchen and also the products, such as meat and fish, were not labelled.

They told El Mundo that it ‘smelled of rotten seafood; it was almost unbearable’.

They also found rat traps on the floor and shockingly, street pigeons that were plucked of their feathers and being used for their duck dish.

El Mundo reported that the restaurant staff are alleged to have hunted pigeons in the street, and killed them by ‘kicking them to death’.

A door leading to a secret storage room behind a shelf in the disabled toilet was also found and was not listed on the business license.

Then, officers found eight freezers with unlabeled meat and fish that was untraceable.

There were also no thermometers onsite, which are used to measure the temperatures of storage areas, a legal requirement in Spain.

As a result of the findings, the restaurant was ordered to close, and the owner of the establishment is now investigated for alleged animal cruelty, crimes against public health, and consumer rights.

Other local reports shared that there were 300 kilos of ‘rotten food’, and that meat was found hanging to dry on a clothesline.

They also found a fan covered in grease, a fire extinguisher not stored correctly as they did not meet the required minimum height that they are needed to be positioned, and emergency doors were blocked by trash containers.

Shockingly, this isn’t the first report that the restaurant has had about its food and conduct, as locals have claimed that they have been reporting the restaurant to the authorities for some time.

"None of us ate there," one person told the Spanish outlet. "It smelled bad, and we saw food brought in on a cart and left at the door in broad daylight."

While the eatery has 4.2 stars on Google, the 'roast duck' was apparently bony…

"The duck I think is a little dry and lots of bones, not that tasty," they posted five years ago.

In light of the plucked pigeons found on site, it’s a little disturbing to see the comment now.
