Brady Bunch star gives more insight into 'on-again, off-again' relationship with onscreen sibling

The big blended family apparently got a little too close behind the cameras

Brady Bunch star Barry Williams has given new insight into his relationship with his onscreen sibling, which might change your view of the show.

It's been more than five decades since the hit American TV show aired in 1969, which follows the lives of the big blended Brady family.

Yet while the show documents the trials and tribulations of any typical close-knit family, viewers might be horrified to learn that the cast got a little bit too close when the cameras stopped rolling.

Barry Williams, who played the eldest son, Greg Brady, teased to US Weekly last year that there were several romances between the on-screen siblings, saying: "We all hooked up with each other at some point."

More specifically, he elaborated: “I dated Maureen [McCormick], and Chris [Knight] dated Eve [Plum] and Michael [Lookinland] and Susan [Olsen] had a little mock wedding at one point.

“So, yes, we all hooked up.”

Now, the 70-year-old actor has delved deeper into his 'on-again, off-again' relationship with McCormick, who played his sister, Marcia, in the show.

Speaking on 'The Real Brady Bros' podcast, Williams and his co-star, Knight, were discussing a particular 1973 episode, 'The Subject as Noses,' where Knight's character, Peter, threw a football at Marcia's face and broke her nose.

Knight, 67, said that it was then that he spotted Williams' apparent closeness with McCormick.

“It did look like she was dating somebody very close to her on the set, judging from the relationship that I was witnessing between the two of you during this show,” he said. “You two were looking a little bit close, a little bit less like brother and sister and more like…”

To which Williams interjected: "You mean dreamy-eyed?"

His co-star said Williams had a 'longing' kind of look in his eyes while their onscreen sister 'was looking dreamy.'

"You guys you were going through a good week, I would say,” Knight added.

Yet Williams revealed the relationship never matured as the years went on, saying there was 'always a little dance being placed that was broken up by hiatus.'

“When she was pretending to have to be affectionate with other guys and going out on dates and stuff, I liked to just stay out of the way and let her do her job and focus on and concentrate until, you know, until an episode that called for us to be sitting next to one another,” the Californian star added.

And whenever there was a heated scene with another actor on set, Williams said he purposely would come by, 'just to have a presence,' he said.

Back in 2013 on The Oprah Winfrey Network, Williams confirmed the pair had a romantic spark, adding that he was her 'first kiss' when they were filming episodes in Hawaii.

"We snuck away. It was a full moon. We walked along the sand, and well, I knew where that was headed. Of course I set it up," he said at the time.

Meanwhile, McCormick confirmed the partnership in her 2008 memoir, Here's The Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My Voice, where she said at one point she thought about him 'more intensely than the way I had fantazised for a long time.'

“We had spent the past three and a half years staving off the desire of a mutual attraction despite the intimacy of working closely with each other every day," she penned.
