People left disturbed after seeing how crab sticks are made and they never want to eat them again

Crab sticks are many people's favorite snack, but do you know how they're made?

When munching down on our favorite food, a lot of us don't tend to think about how it's actually made.

However, when you see the likes of how chicken nuggets or hot dogs are produced it does make you think twice about what we're putting in our bodies.

Last year, people were left seriously disturbed after seeing how crab sticks are made, and it even left some vowing to never eat them again.

Now that's a pretty big claim, so prepare yourself for the video below:

They may be a beloved snack, but it seems crab sticks have somewhat of a disturbing story of how they get from the sea to your plate.

So, let's get into it.

Well, it all starts out with meat - it’s just frozen fish meat, but it’s not - as you might have been led to believe - crab meat.

To put things simply, the gray meat is comprised of a species called Alaskan pollock.

That meat is then fed into a mixer, where it is mashed up, then churned up with other ingredients such as egg whites and wheat, which is then - you’ve guessed it - mixed up once again.

That creates a paste-like substance that is vaguely reminiscent of building putty or clay.

Lost your appetite yet?

Well, the next step is to get that goo and feed it into a machine that creates just one long strip of meaty material, which is then spun together - woven like rope - to create the texture of crab or lobster meat.

Some of that stuff is then sold off as surimi or substitute crab meat, before other bits of it are coated in the orange colored casing that you might associate with crab or lobster, then sold as crab sticks.

As expected, loads of people aren’t happy with their new knowledge.

"I will never purchase this ever again! Thank you for opening my eyes!" one person commented, while a second added: "I always thought this stuff was disgusting, now I KNOW it is."

However, not everyone will be dropping crab sticks anytime soon.

"I love adding lots of mock crabmeat to my delicious pasta salad recipe. See, now y'all went and made me hungry!!!" someone else said.

Another agreed: "To be perfectly honest, I like the product. It's very affordable and makes a very good cold crab salad."

Will you be eating crab sticks again?
