An end-of-life nurse has shared some 'comforting' insights into death

An end-of-life nurse has shared the most 'comforting' thing about what happens to patients before they die.

Witnessing a loved one in their final weeks or days is one of the most awful experiences a family can go through.

It's a time filled with a lot of reflection, as well as upset.

But a nurse who works with these patients every day has shared something that may be 'comforting' to loved ones going through this hard time.

Julie, who makes content on TikTok, shared that there is something 'most' patients experience in their final moments.

One viewer even said that they are 'not scared of death anymore' after watching her video.

In the clip, she explained: "The craziest things we see in the hospice is that most people will start talking or seeing dead relatives, dead loved ones, dead friends, and dead pets, before they die."

But the nurse said that they don't actually experience this in the days leading up to their death.

She added: "And it's not like right before they die, it's usually about a month before they die.

"They are usually very alert and oriented, they're not low on oxygen, they're not taking a bunch of medication to make them confused.

"They are clearly speaking or seeing someone who has already died."

And the most bizarre thing is that hospice staff have no idea why this happens.

Julie said: "We are not claiming that they are really seeing these people, we have no idea.

"But all I can tell you as a health care professional, who has worked in this line of work for a very long time, is that it happens all the time."

And whilst this could be very comforting for some family members, it could also be equally upsetting or confusing for some.

But Julie ensured that they support the loved ones who are there whilst the patient is experiencing the 'visions'.

She said: "We educate the family about this topic before it happens, so they're not incredibly alarmed when it starts happening."

People in the comments shared their experiences.

One said: "My mother in law was telling her sister that their mother was packing a suitcase for her trip and picked out a dress for her to wear."

Another said: "I love the idea of being old and seeing my mum again, and her taking me into the afterlife as she brought me into this one."
