Man thought his feet was to blame for smell in his room before before dead body was discovered under his bed

Man thought his feet was to blame for smell in his room before before dead body was discovered under his bed

The bizarre incident led to a murder investigation and a suspect's arrest.

A guest in a Tibetan hotel initially thought he just had smelly feet until a corpse was discovered under his bed.

The Chinese man, identified in local media only as Mr Zhang, checked into his hotel in Lhasa on 21 April.

He said that he noticed a 'strong' smell in his room at the Guzang Shuhua Inn after checking in. He then decided to sleep on the bed for three hours.

After having a nap, he then headed out of the hotel at around 15:30 local time.

A few hours later, he came back to his room to freshen up before dinner, again noticing the smell, but put it down to the bakery downstairs, the room's rancid heating system - or even his own feet.

After dinner, he asked to leave the room and be moved to a different one.

Later that night, staff came to his new room and asked him to return to the one he'd vacated as a dead body had been found.

Police had been called, who took his DNA and conducted an interview with him about what had been found.

However, Mr Zhang was told not to worry by police as a suspect had been arrested for the crime.

Police said that the suspect was arrested on a train en route to Lanzhou City in a joint effort by the Lanzhou and Xi'an police and was identified by his last name, Gao.

They have also confirmed to several Chinese media publications that they are currently investigating the case.

Mr Zhang later shared his experience on Chinese social media site, Weibo.

In an interview with Shangyou News on 30 April, Mr Zhang said: "I am very scared and I am still struggling to sleep."

Mr Zhang also told the publication that he left Lhasa the next day.

"I wish this sort of thing didn't happen to me. I don't need something like this in my life." Mr Zhang said.

A TikTok from Maclen and Ashleigh (@the.law.says.what), two Harvard Law spouses, discussed strange hotel laws and revealed that while around 100,000 people die in hotels every year, hotels aren’t legally required to tell you if someone has passed away in the room you’re going to be staying in.

"Even if it was the guest right before you… all they have to do is clean it," the couple said.
