Lorde has been made to delete her post on Instagram after breaking election rules in New Zealand.
The singer, who hails from Auckland, previously shared a post encouraging her fans in the city to vote on the mayoral ballot, before her message was swiftly removed from the site. Lorde explains why her post was removed here:
Her original post read: “Local election turnout is low as always – get out there – your community needs you.”

The post on her Instagram Stories also showed a filled out ballot paper which appeared to reveal which candidate the 25-year-old voted for.
This was a violation of Auckland’s electoral rules, which don’t allow social media posts on a person’s chosen candidates or images of their voting papers, so as to not influence others in their democratic rights.
The star, born Ella Yelich-O’Connor, has since returned back to the platform to explain why she had to take down her post, and admitted that she was ‘told off’ by the Electoral Commission.
She said in the video: “Ok, so the Electoral Commission told me off because you’re not allowed to post anything about who you’re gonna vote for or show voting papers.

“So, uh, you know – the post still applies…get out there,” she explained, ensuring she was still urging her followers to vote in the current election.
Lorde has often been vocal about her political views, having previously made headlines during her set at Glastonbury, in which she became one of many performers at the festival who used their platform to raise awareness around the gravity of the US Supreme Court’s ruling over Roe v Wade.
During her performance on the Pyramid Stage at the UK-based festival on 26 June, Lorde proclaimed ‘F*** the Supreme Court.’

The singer announced on the stage: “Welcome to sadness. The temperature is unbearable until you face it. Wanna hear a secret girls? Your bodies were destined to be controlled and objectified since before you were born.”
She continued: “That horror is your birthright. But here’s another secret. You possess ancient strength. Ancient wisdom. The wisdom that has propelled every woman that came before you. That wisdom is also your birthright.
“I ask you today, make exercising that wisdom your life’s work because everything depends on it,” she encouraged her audience. “F*** the Supreme Court.”
