Of course, prices are going to increase quite a bit in the space of 16 years thanks to inflation.
But many people have been left feeling the effect of the cost-of-living crisis in recent years as wages don't seem to be rising in line with the price of everything else.

How much prices have increased in recent years is perhaps evident from a 2008 receipt, which has left many Australians yearning for cheaper days.
The receipt, which is certainly well preserved considering its age, was recently uploaded to Reddit by a man who found it in his grandmother's car.
But its the offers found on the back of the bit of paper that has grabbed fellow Reddit users' attention.

First of all, such promotions are very rarely seen on the back of receipts nowadays, instead it's usually online.
As a result, this has brought a trip down memory lane for many of us.
But into the promotions, the first one was for a hairdressing salon, promoting six free add-on foils with any cut or color.
Pizza Hut was next to offer coupon codes, with a deal for three large pizzas for just $15.95 AUD [$10.71] if picked up in store.

Next up, a local butcher was offering a kilogram of sausages for free if a customer spent $30 AUD [$20] or more.
The New York Post notes the equivalent deal in 2014 sets customers back $36.95 AUD [$24.82].
A McDonald's voucher on the receipt is perhaps the most surprising though, something that is for sure to be a kick in the teeth for regular visitors of the fast food chain nowadays.

With the offer in 2008, customers could grab two Big Macs for a mere $5 AUD [$3.36] - with just a single Big Mac costing $7.75 AUD [$5.21] in the current day.
"Receipt deals i found in my nans car from 2008, Oh how prices have changed," the user captioned the post.
Many Redditors have flocked to the comments section of the post, reminiscing on better times.

"Oh I miss docket deals! I forgot they even existed. Now I feel so old and sad," one person penned.
A second added: "I bet those 2 Big Macs for $5 would have actually filled you up back then too.
While a third simply said: "Take me the f**k back."
