There's an unusual new sex trend that people are trying both solo and with their partners and apparently its popularity is on the rise.
The sexual practice which involves self pleasure has seen a whopping 778 percent search increase on Google in recent years.
What is gooning and what is it for?
The whole point of the unconventional way of masturbating - know as gooning - is basically to prolong the experience of pleasure for as long as you can, kind of like eating a massive ice cream sundae with a teaspoon instead of a big one.

Basically, it's somewhat like edging, but more intense.
Sex expert Ness Cooper told Metro: "Edging is when someone slowly masturbates to the point of orgasm and then stops. In gooning people are more likely to repeat this process over an extended period.
"Gooning is meant to put people into a trance-like state due to edging so often and so soon after each round. Standard edging can have more forceful stops, while gooning can feel more like teasing."

Cooper went on to say that some people may opt to watch porn or do other fetish-related things while performing the act.
"Some suggest it can lead to euphoric feelings from repeated exposure to feel-good hormones," she added.
How did gooning get its name?
As to how it got the unusual name, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, and certified sex therapist Dr Ty David Therman explained to Mashable: "The term is a nod to the 'Goons' of early Popeye the Sailor cartoons, which depicted henchmen who were not very smart and seemingly single-task oriented."

There's another type of kink that's become increasingly more popular of late, and it's much more PG that gooning.
It's something known as 'praise kink' and as you probably expected, it's all about praising your partner.
Explaining the kink in more detail, expert Dr. Nicole K. McNichols said on TikTok: "People who have praise kinks get turned on by their partner complimenting them.

"Praise kink exists on a continuum of course, because, I mean, who doesn’t love being told that they’re beautiful or hot or amazing in some way?"
There are hundreds of videos online of people discussing the unique turn-on. Searches for the term began to skyrocket back in April 2021, according to Mind Body Green.
Have fun out there, folks.
