Woman divides the internet after sharing unusual reason why she was 'kicked off' flight

Woman divides the internet after sharing unusual reason why she was 'kicked off' flight

Traveler Ellie Brelis says Delta staff removed her from the flight after informing them of her allergies

A woman has left people divided after revealing why she was supposedly removed from her flight.

Ellie Brelis took to TikTok on Monday (October 7) to detail her experience as she held back tears while doing so.

In one clip that's been viewed thousands of times since being posted on the platform, Ellie explained that she was having 'really, really serious health issues right now' and was jetting back to her hometown to see her doctor.

She went on to say that she'd recently suffered a 'mild anaphylactic shock compared to other ones I've had' and felt it was right to inform Delta Airlines staff (whom she was flying with) about her allergies.

Ellie 'wanted to make sure nothing happened' during her flight following her recent allergic reaction and, as a result of her revealing her health issues, says she was removed from her Delta flight.

"I did all the things I was supposed to to advocate for myself so I could have a safe flight," the young woman went on to say while wiping away tears.

She proceeded to question if she was the problem in the situation and if she shouldn't have said anything.

Adding to her frustrations, Ellie's checked bag was on the flight without her.

In a follow-up video, the woman claimed airline staff 'literally escorted [her] off' the plane.

She proceeded to explain that Delta said they were going to put her on a redeye flight in five hours time, but that they'd have to call Medair for Ellie to speak to a doctor who would confirm if she was fit to fly or not.

Ellie fumed: "What the f**? I've always been fit to fly until I flew to LA and had an allergic reaction."

Many people have since commented on Ellie's videos with empathic messages and apologized that she had to go through what she did.

"I’m sorry that must be so scary for you," said one TikToker.

Hitting out at Delta, another person penned: "That’s unacceptable I’m so sorry @delta should be ashamed."

But others saw where the airline was coming from.

Someone explained: "I am sorry you’re going through this. They feared you could have anaphylaxis on the plane. If there was any exposure, they couldn’t accept that responsibility."

A different person with a similar condition to Ellie's added: "I have airborne nut allergies (peanuts and almonds). With Delta I am required to call in advance of my flight to put it on my account every time, ask gate agent for pre boarding, and tell the FAs."

As per Delta Airlines' website, the company says: "While we are unable to guarantee a peanut-free or allergen-free flight or prohibit other customers from carrying these products on board, we strive to make reasonable accommodations for your needs."

It adds that travelers should notify them prior to their flight so the appropriate measures can be made for them, and explains how to do this.

UNILAD has contacted Delta for a comment.
