Google is offering its employees the chance to sleep ‘on campus’ for a fee, encouraging workers to make the most of no early morning commute with ‘an extra hour of sleep’.
Last year, the tech giant asked staff to return to the office three days a week as part of a post-Covid hybrid approach.
Google then announced stricter measures in June to ensure people were coming in when they should, with CNBC reporting it introduced office attendance for performance reviews, tracking badge data and requests for those working remotely to reconsider and re-join co-workers on site.

The latest move sees the company offering up discounted hotel stays at its Mountain View office complex, with rooms available to book by full-time employees for $99 a night.
In materials seen by CNBC, Google said its ‘Summer Special’ will run until 30 September, hoping the scheme will ‘make it easier for Googlers to transition to the hybrid workplace’.
“Just imagine no commute to the office in the morning and instead, you could have an extra hour of sleep and less friction,” the description said.

“Next, you could walk out of your room and quickly grab a delicious breakfast or get a workout in before work starts.”
It even suggests that, after the working day comes to an end, guests at the hotel could ‘enjoy a quiet evening on top of the rooftop deck or take in one of the fun local activities’.
The hotel is part of Google’s 42-acre Bay View campus, which opened last year in Mountain View and can hold up to 4,000 workers.
According to CNBC, the offer has been met with a mixed reaction from staffers, who have been discussing the ad on an internal forum.

“Now I can give some of my pay back to Google,” one joked.
Although someone else argued: “I pay more and get a lot less in total for my apartment... Though admittedly where I live is much better.”
Google spokesperson Ryan Lamont said in a statement to The Verge: “We regularly run accommodation specials for local or traveling Googlers to take advantage of our spaces and amenities.

“We advertise these in a regular Perks email which also contains discounts for employees on other services and entertainment options.”
