A security expert has detailed a chilling new theory for who may be behind the mysterious New Jersey drones amid a recent explanation from the Pentagon.
Many in the region have been left in a state of confusion after a spike in drone sightings, leaving some wondering what the aircrafts are doing and where they came from.
What has the Pentagon said about the drone sightings?
As officials continue to search for answers regarding the sightings, the Pentagon recently revealed the 'truth' about what is going on.

On Wednesday (December 11), Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said in a briefing that there was 'no evidence these are coming from a foreign entity or the work of an adversary'.
"We're going to continue to monitor what is happening. But, you know, at no point were our installations threatened when this activity was occurring," she added.
Initial assessment from the Pentagon had also shown the 'drones' weren't from another country and that the US military didn't take them down because they weren't deemed to be a threat.
'It truly is to keep it secret', claims security expert
A security expert has since offered his thoughts on what the drones could potentially be, suggesting the US government may be behind it.

According to the New York Post, retired Navy SEAL Clint Emerson, who owns a security company, said: "My first guess is these are potentially government programs kept within what’s known as a ‘Special Access Program,’ which is purposely put together to keep even the most cleared people out - it truly is to keep it secret."
"That’s why the government’s like, ‘We don’t know.’ They’re being truthful," the security expert added.
He went on to suggest those allegedly involved with the drones could be as small a group as a dozen, meaning loads of people in government would be unaware of the plans.

Emerson also speculated the drones could be gathering mobile phone data, adding: "How much data can we collect with this? Let’s say we got 10 drones, they fly in a grid, how much cellphone traffic can we pick up? Not actual conversations. But just the signature of millions of cellphones. What can 10 drones pick up going over an area?
"That’s a legitimate test. They’re not invading your privacy. That’s legitimate data. And that’s a f**king capability."
Reuters reports that the FBI and New Jersey State Police had asked the public to report any information regarding the possible sightings.
"Witnesses have spotted the cluster of what look to be drones and a possible fixed-wing aircraft," the FBI said.

"We have reports from the public and law enforcement dating back several weeks."
