Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife shot by police and booked for attempted murder

Jillian Shriner allegedly aimed a handgun at cops and was absentee booked on suspicion of attempted murder, LA police said

The wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner has been shot by police and booked for attempted murder following reports of a hit-and-run, police said.

On Tuesday (April 8), cops descended on the Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock after reports of a hit-and-run on the 134 Freeway.

Three suspects allegedly fled the freeway crash scene and into the residential area at around 3.25pm PT, according to LAPD, which prompted a huge manhunt from California Highway Patrol.

While searching for the trio, police discovered a woman, identified as Weezer bassist's wife Jillian Shriner, who was allegedly armed with a handgun outside her home.

The 51-year-old - who was not involved in the hit-and-run - apparently refused to drop the weapon when cops asked her 'numerous times' and allegedly went on to point the handgun at officers.

Officers then opened fire and struck the musician's wife which TMZ reports hit her in the shoulder.

It is then alleged the New Jersey-born author went back inside her home after being shot before returning and surrendering with another woman, later identified as the family's babysitter, before being treated at a local hospital for a non-threatening gunshot wound.

A search of the property further revealed a 9-millimetre handgun was found.

Cops have since booked Jillian for attempted murder in connection with the incident with police.

LAPD added that no officers or other civilians were injured during the shootout and that Jillian was not involved in the hit-and-run report.

According to KLTA, Jillian and the babysitter have since been released from police custody.

Jillian tied the knot with musician Scott Shriner in 2005. The bassist joined the rock band Weezer in 2001 after replacing Mikey Welsh.

The pair share two adopted children and live in the same residence.

As for the crash, the news outlet reports a multi-vehicle hit-and-run sparked chaos in LA while cops launched a wide scale manhunt.

One man was allegedly arrested in his underwear while another two men remain on the loose.

Witnesses told KTLA that they saw at least one of the suspects leaving the crash scene on foot.

LA cops eventually caught up with the suspect near the intersection of Waldo Place and Eagle Vista Drive and is expected to be charged with felony hit and run, reports CBS News.

He had also reportedly stripped to his underwear and was attempting to blend into the neighborhood by swimming in a residential pool and watering plants.

A woman who was involved in the crash on the freeway was taken to hospital after suffering moderate injuries.

The other two suspects in the crash, believed to be male, have not yet been found according to police.

UNILAD has contacted LAPD for comment and Weezer's representatives.
