Rockstar 'plans to announce Grand Theft Auto 6 this week'

Maybe don't book the time off work just yet...

GTA fans who've been impatiently waiting for more than a decade for news of the next installment have finally been thrown a bone.

That's right, Rockstar will reportedly announce Grand Theft Auto VI as early as this week.

Not only that, but a trailer for the game could also be released next month.

While Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI is in development, it has otherwise remained quiet about any potential release dates.

The game is one of the most hotly anticipated titles in development.

The previous instalment in the franchise went on to become one of the best-selling video games ever released.

With that kind of hype, the latest game is sure to be a massive seller.

Fans have already had some unofficial teasers of the upcoming game after in-development footage of the game was leaked in 2022.

Rockstar confirmed the leaks were genuine, but clarified that it would not be affecting the game's development timeline.

The leaks showed robberies, voiced conversations, gunplay, and other elements.

But aside from that, Rockstar has been careful to bide its time with the game, and has been tight-lipped aside from confirming it is in development.

While information about the upcoming release is scarce, there have been some potential details flying around, though these have not been confirmed.

They include that one of the playable characters will be a hispanic woman, as well as that it will be set in a fictionalised version of Miami.

Not only that, but other cities will be added over time.

Previous versions of the game have included the city of Los Santos, which is a fictionalised version of Los Angeles and its metropolitan areas.

Grand Theft Auto was first developed as a top-down game (where the action is viewed from overhead) where players could roam around stealing cars and evading police.

However, the series came into its own with 2001's Grand Theft Auto 3. This brought the game into the 3D, open world iteration which has become so popular.

A release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 has not been confirmed, however it is possible that the game could be released next year.

So, maybe don't book the time off work just yet.

It's possible that the trailer will be released at the upcoming Game Awards, which will take place on 7 December, but there has not been any confirmation of this at present.

Needless to say, any official update will send fans into a frenzy after years of waiting.
