GTA VI predicted to make more than $1 billion in 24 hours

GTA VI predicted to make more than $1 billion in 24 hours

A gaming expert has told UNILAD how he thinks GTA VI will perform

After many years of waiting, gamers finally got their first glimpse at GTA VI this week, and it really didn't disappoint.

Rockstar Games released the first trailer for the highly anticipated game on Monday (4 December), after it initially leaked online.

The visually impressive first look at GTA VI showcased the ever-expected Vice City for the very first time, with a modern twist compared to 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

While the fictionalized depiction of Miami certainly took centre stage, fans also got to see a lot of the series' first female protagonist, Lucia.

GTA fans were left pretty ecstatic about all of that, though the announcement of a 2025 release date has left a lot of them disappointed.

There have been some indications on when GTA VI could release in 2025, though there is no official confirmation from Rockstar as of yet.

Whenever in 2025 GTA VI does release, one thing is for sure it's going to make an awful lot of money.

The GTA VI reveal trailer broke the Guinness World Record for the most views of a video game trailer on YouTube over a 24-hour period.

Gaming expert Ciaran Lee believes all this will add up to Rockstar having a very big pay day come GTA VI's release.

"The GTA series is a cultural phenomenon and its loyal fans have had to wait 10 years for a new instalment," Lee told UNILAD.

"Sales of this title will also be helped by how well Rockstar's other title Red Dead Redemption 2 is regarded."

He added: "GTA 5 made $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. Grand Theft Auto 5 launch week was huge, and GTA 6 will be colossal. I predict that it will be one of the biggest openings for an entertainment title and could do $1 billion to $1.5 billion in sales within 24 hours."

The gaming expert admits it's a little more difficult to predict longer-term sales, though if GTA V's numbers are anything to go, it'll do just fine.

As of November 2023, GTA V has sold over 190 million units worldwide, making it the second best-selling game of all time behind Minecraft.

Lee believes GTA VI should outsell GTA V 'comfortably'.

"Long-term sales are harder to predict and rely on the game being good, but if everything we have seen so far, along with past results from Rockstar, it should outsell GTA 5 comfortably," he said.
