Avril Lavigne’s ex Mod Sun says fans saved his ‘goddamn life’ following split

Avril Lavigne’s ex Mod Sun says fans saved his ‘goddamn life’ following split

The singer opened up about just how important his fans were to him following the breakup

Avril Lavigne’s ex-fiancé Mod Sun has said his fans saved his 'g**damn life' following their split.

The 'Karma' singer seemed totally beside himself when the engagement was first called off, but it's clear that his dedicated fanbase has bolstered him back up.

Mod Sun - born Derek Ryan Smith - has thanked his supporters for helping him feel 'loved' and 'not alone'.

The pair delighted fans all over after Avril announced that she would be getting engaged to the real life 'Sk8r Boi' last year.

The 'Girlfriend' singer shared the news in a romantic Instagram reveal, showing photos of when Mod Sun popped the question in Paris.

Alongside the images, Avril wrote: "Yes! I love you forever. Sunday. 27. March. 2022."

Mod Sun also took to the platform to share pictures from the engagement, revealing that he knew Avril was 'the one' from the 'day [they] met' in the accompanying caption.

The pair first began dating back in December 2020 after working together on Mod Sun's track 'Flames', and the rapper later demonstrated the seriousness of the relationship by having Avril's name tattooed on his neck.

However, much to many nostalgic fans' dismay, Avril soon called off the engagement.

A spokesperson for Avril confirmed the break-up to Page Six with Mod Sun's confused reps commenting: "They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour so if anything has changed that’s news to him."

They added that his current tour would continue as planned.

She really said 'see ya later boy'.

Mod Sun publicly acknowledged the split and spoke up about it to his 727k followers on Instagram.

The star wrote: "In 1 week my entire life completely changed…I just know there’s a plan for it all," accompanied with a broken heart emoji.

He continued: "Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing.

"I have the best friends in the entire world, thanks for always having my back. See you on stage."

While performing on stage at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday (2 April), Mod Sun offered a heartfelt thank you to his fans for 'f***ing saving' his 'g**damn life' throughout the past six weeks as he closed his God Save the Teen tour.

The concert came round two months after the end of hid year-long engagement to Avril, with the singer admitting he had been 'tested like a motherf**ker.'

Fan footage from the night showed Mod Sun revealing: "This tour... my life changed completely in the blink of an eye."

Mod Sun continued, noting that the tour had been the 'one thing to save' him and make him feel 'loved' and 'not alone.'

Extending the support back to his loyal fans, the musician advised any of his fans that were going through 'heartbreak', 'depression' or 'anxiety' to not be afraid to ask for help to get through it.

The news follows Avril announcing her new relationship with Tyga just days after splitting from Mod Sun.

Mod Sun took to his Instagram story after the closing show to offer yet another thank you to his fans.

"L.A. that was such an amazing end to this tour," he said. "I'm just so grateful. I love y'all so much ... Time for a new chapter."

It's clear that, for Mod, the show most certainly does go on.
