Elon Musk invites fired CNN host Don Lemon to start new show on Twitter

Elon Musk invites fired CNN host Don Lemon to start new show on Twitter

Despite Don Lemon being fired from CNN, it seems Elon Musk is keen for the former news anchor to have his own show on Twitter.

Elon Musk has invited Don Lemon to have his own show on Twitter, just two weeks after the former host was fired.

The CNN anchor was let go amid allegations of misogynistic behaviour, ending a 17-year-long partnership with the US news channel.

Musk’s suggestion comes just a few days after Tucker Carlson announced he would host a new show on Twitter.

Don Lemon was a CNN host for 17 years.

The former Fox News anchor shared his plans via a tweet on May 9, with a 3-minute video and a caption that read: ‘We’re back’ – referring his show being ousted from the network.

As users react to the news, the clip has gained over 126 million views with Musk also commenting on the clip.

He told users: “On this platform, unlike the one-way street of broadcast, people are able to interact, critique and refute whatever he or anyone may say.”

However, the billionaire was aware of Carlson’s more controversial stances and insisted that he had not signed a deal with the platform.

Musk added that the 53-year-old was ‘subject to the same rules & rewards of all content creators’.

Meanwhile, the Tesla owner has encouraged Lemon to set up his own show on Twitter.

Both TV hosts were fired on April 24, with the former CNN star announcing on the platform that he was leaving after an ‘incredible run’.

Earlier this week, Musk replied to the April 24 tweet, writing: "Have you considered doing your show on this platform? Maybe worth a try. Audience is much bigger."

Whilst it’s unclear whether Lemon will find a deal with Twitter, it could be one of the many changes happening at the company currently.

In a surprising update, Musk revealed that he would be stepping down as the CEO despite only taking the role in October 2022.

On Thursday, he tweeted: “Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks!”

Musk also revealed that he would be taking on a more technical role, adding: “My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops.”

However, the businessman has yet to reveal who this mysterious new exec is and has offered no further comment.

Many allege that his replacement is Linda Yaccarino, a former Head of Advertising at NBC Universal.
