Comedian Colin Jost doubled down on his Diddy references during Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary show after a quick comment during the 'Weekend Update' prompted a mixed reaction.
Jost was joined by his co-host Michael Che to run the Weekend Update during SNL's huge anniversary celebrations this weekend (February 16); an opportunity that Jost described as an 'honor and a thrill' as the pair kicked off the segment.
Jost then wasted no time in getting into the comedic spirit as he added: “It is incredible that SNL is still going after all this time, and I am just talking about tonight’s show.”
The anniversary celebrations were marked by a star-studded cast and audience, including the likes of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Pete Davison, Tina Fey, and Chris Rock, and Jost made reference to the huge turnout as he revealed that some of the stars actually had to watch the show from another studio.

After explaining that some had been relegated to 'Studio 8G next door', Jost then threw in a reference to Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who is currently being detained in New York after he was arrested in September 2024 on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Jost quipped: "There are so many famous hosts and musical guests here tonight that some huge names... have to watch from Studio 8G next door as well as from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn."

The reference was accompanied by a picture of Diddy, but it didn't quite receive the same immediate laughter that Jost's previous jokes had.

Instead, the comment was met with a mixture of chuckles and calls of 'ooh' as the reference to the accused rapper sunk in, prompting Jost to respond with a dig towards the star-studded viewers.
Looking around the room, he said: "Oh, you went to the parties, OK."
The second comment was met with relative silence, and Che quickly took over the segment as he moved on to talk about SNL's success at awards shows over the years.

Jost's comment about 'the parties' in relation to Diddy were a reference to the so-called 'freak off' events which the rapper is accused of hosting prior to his arrest.
Diddy has denied all of the allegations against him.
Though Jost's comment received mixed responses in the room, it received a better reception from viewers at home, with one describing his brutal dig as 'gold'.
"Colin Jost's response to less laughs 'oh you went to his parties' [laughing face]. Gold #SNL50," they wrote on Twitter.

Elsewhere in the segment, former SNL host Bill Murray made an appearance to rank the top 10 Weekend Update hosts of all time - a list which notably did not include Jost.
