Movie fans left shocked at the sight of Cameron Diaz being forcefully kissed on stage have praised the way Jim Carrey reacted to the situation.
Diaz could be seen attempting to turn her head away from her co-presenter Chris Isaak when they appeared together on stage at the 1995 MTV Movie Awards, where they presented the award for 'Best Kiss'.
Nominees in the category included Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock for Speed, and Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson for Natural Born Killers, among others, but it was ultimately Carrey and his co-star Lauren Holly who won the award.

The pair earned the title for their smooch in Dumb and Dumber, but before they made their way to the stage Isaak appeared to try and join in the fun with a kiss of his own.
After introducing the category, Isaak tried to put his arm around Diaz and leaned in for a smooch.
Diaz seemed to be having none of it and tried to continue with her line, which is when Issak attempted to kiss her again, saying, 'Come here, baby' despite Diaz's refusal.
Isaak then appeared to pull her closer for a kiss, commenting that he knew she would 'come around' to the idea.

Diaz appeared to laugh at the situation, suggesting it may have been scripted, but viewers were still left uncomfortable as the scene unfolded.
Those watching at home apparently weren't the only ones who wanted to take a stand against the kiss, as the footage showed Carrey getting his own back on Isaak.
As he went to accept his award, Carrey ascended the staircase to the stage, walked directly over to Isaak and embraced him, seemingly kissing him in the process.

The camera angle meant it was unclear whether Carrey and Isaak actually kissed or not, but Isaak could be seen wiping his lips after Carrey walked off, with an uncomfortable look on his face.
Fans celebrated Carrey's reaction and described him as 'hero' after the video was circulated online, with one person writing: "Jim sitting in the audience like 'I’ve got a deliciously devious idea'."
Another user wrote: "He saw that and literally made and went 'well alrighty then,' then did what he had to do."

"God, I love Jim Carrey. He’s always been my favourite," added a third.
Other viewers expressed their hope that the performance on stage was 'part of the act'.
UNILAD previously reached out to Chris Isaak's representatives for a comment, but has not received a response.
