**Content warning - discussions of miscarriage**
A resurfaced clip from The Ellen DeGeneres Show has left people cringing as the host attempted to use alcohol get to the bottom Mariah Carey's pregnancy rumors.
The clip continues to receive backlash more than a decade after Carey appeared on the chat show, before a 2020 report revealed allegations of a toxic workplace taking place on the set.
Former staffers on the series, which ran for 20 years before coming to an end this year, made allegations of misconduct behind the scenes.

However, Carey has made clear that she faced her own 'uncomfortable' moment in front of the camera.
The actor appeared on the show in 2008, after she tied the knot with Nick Cannon and rumors began to spread about whether they had a baby on the way.
DeGeneres broached the subject on the show, but Carey quickly tried to shut it down by saying, "Don’t discuss that."
However, the host then attempted to find away around directly asking Carey if she was pregnant by instead encouraging her to drink champagne as part of a toast.

“I can’t believe you did this to me, Ellen,” Carey said on the show. “This is peer pressure. What Ellen is doing, this is peer pressure.”
Carey ended up taking a small sip of the champagne, with her reluctance prompting DeGeneres to declare, "You're pregnant!"
The moment was laughter and cheers from the audience at the time, but Carey was still clearly not willing to discuss the subject as she pointed out, "I didn't say that."

Carey was pregnant at the time, but sadly experienced a miscarriage after the interview. She later went on to welcome twins with Cannon, before the pair split in 2014.
Looking back at her experience on The Ellen DeGeneres Show during a conversation with Vulture in 2020, Carey described the situation as 'extremely uncomfortable'.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say," the singer said. "And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath. I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage.
"[There’s] an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do?”

Carey went on to insist she didn't want to 'throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus', but added: "I didn’t enjoy that moment.”
With the clip from The Ellen DeGeneres Show still available online, internet users have slammed the cringe-inducing moment.
"Even if Mariah wasn’t pregnant, you shouldn’t pressure someone to drink," one viewer commented after watching the clip.

Another wrote: "Mariah literally couldn’t win because even if she got up and left the interview people still would’ve known she was pregnant. What a horrible position to put someone in for extra views. Gross."
