Shaquil Barrett's two-year-old daughter, Arrayah, died on Sunday (30 April) after drowning in a swimming pool at the family's South Tampa home.
Tampa police officers responded to the incident just before 9:30 am local time in reference to a child who had fallen into a pool.
After Arrayah was transported to a hospital in the area, lifesaving measures were taken but, sadly, she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The incident is believed to not be suspicious.
“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family,” the Tampa Bay Buccaneers said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time.
“While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”
Barrett's former teammate Tom Brady also shared his condolences on social media by posting a photo of Barrett, his wife Jordanna, their four children and their dog.
"The Bradys love you," he wrote.
Fans around the world have been left heartbroken by the devastating news, with one person writing: "My condolences to the Barrett Family!"
"Such tragic news... prayers to the family," a second added.
"I'm sick hearing that news," a third wrote.
Another said: "I can’t even imagine. Deepest condolences to the Barretts."
Arrayah was the youngest of Barrett and Jordanna's four children - sons Shaquil Jr. and Braylon, and daughter Aaliyah.
Marking Arrayah's second birthday recently on Instagram, Jordanna wrote: "Happy Second birthday my little Arrayah Sunshine!
"We love you so much!
"You are the completion to our family, the apple to our eyes!
"You've become the most fun, energetic, entertaining, sweet, kind, smart, precious little girl we could have ever dreamed of!
"Your big sis, big bros, and momma and daddy love you to the moon and back.
"Happy birthday Arrayah Sue."
"Happy 2nd bday to my cutie girl. So sweet and cute," Barrett also wrote.
"You made our family complete. I love you baby girl."
Barrett's 2022 campaign was cut short after he suffered an achilles injury in a loss against the Baltimore Ravens.
In 2019 he joined the Buccaneers as a free agent when he played in his first Pro Bowl.
